What Is Solvent Ink?

Solvent ink is a durable printing ink formulated with chemical solvents that dissolve the pigments and allow them to bond deeply to non-porous surfaces

Solvent ink is a durable printing ink formulated with chemical solvents that dissolve the pigments and allow them to bond deeply to non-porous surfaces. Unlike water-based inks, solvent inks penetrate the print media, creating vibrant, long-lasting colours that resist UV light, moisture, and abrasion—making them ideal for outdoor signage and vehicle graphics.

Used in wide-format printers, solvent inks are a go-to choice for producing banners, posters, wraps, and decals that need to withstand harsh environments. They deliver rich, vivid results with excellent adhesion on vinylPVC, and coated substrates.

There are two main types: full solvent inks, known for maximum durability, and eco-solvent inks, which use gentler solvents for reduced odour and lower environmental impact while still offering strong outdoor performance.

Because of their excellent weather resistance, solvent printing remains a cost-effective, reliable solution for high-volume sign and display production. Prints dry quickly, require no lamination in most cases, and maintain colour vibrancy for years.

Whether you’re printing outdoor graphics, exhibition displays, or long-term promotional materials, solvent ink technology ensures professional-grade results built to last.
